Although Fürth's young talent Natanas Zebrauskas (20) is still at the beginning of his career, he has already experienced a lot - also as a Lithuanian international.

Penalty shoot-outs are cruel, precisely because they leave behind tragically failed misses every time. Fürth's Natanas Zebrauskas, who competed in the semi-finals of the Baltic Cup against Iceland in November 2022 as the sixth shooter for his home country Lithuania and failed, also had to live through this painful experience recently. The result: The Lithuanians lost 5:6 due to the missed shot.

There's no doubt about it: carrying this heavy burden on his shoulders is quite a lot of responsibility for a 20-year-old in only his second senior international match. Especially because the talent's everyday football routine otherwise takes place with Fürth's U23 in the Regionalliga Bayern. It is this thing with responsibility. Despite his young age, Zebrauskas is happy to take it over, but he sees it as confirmation of his positive development.

At the tender age of 16, Zebrauskas once dared to take the step from the small Lithuanian town of Gargzdai in the west of the country to Franconia, to 1. FC Nürnberg. Leaving for a foreign country, learning a previously foreign language and a completely new environment were initially "a big step" for the teenager, he remembers and adds: "Benas Satkus helped me a lot in the beginning." Indeed. The one year older compatriot Satkus, who is now under contract with third-division club VfL Osnabrück, took his friend under his wing at the beginning, so that Zebrauskas quickly felt comfortable in Nuremberg and first became a regular player in the U17, later in the U19 - but no longer in the original six-man position, but in the defensive center.

The retraining to the more defensive position of the central defender is a testament to Zebrauskas versatility. After his move to the Kleeblatt about one and a half years ago, the defensive player was retrained again - this time as a right-back.

"This is where his strengths come into their own," explains U-23 coach Petr Ruman and adds: "Natanas is strong defensively, bites into every duel and impresses with great willingness to run." Ruman also praises the ambition of his protégé, who works almost tirelessly to improve his technique as well as the accuracy of passing and flanking. Meanwhile, Zebrauskas has also matured in terms of game intelligence. While he flew off the pitch twice in the previous season with yellow-red, the fan of Spain's defensive star Sergio Ramos now behaves smarter in duels.

Positive development

Despite all his ambition to become a professional, Zebrauskas is not an Ich-AG - on the contrary. He is described as a helpful team player. He lives in a shared apartment with his teammates Willi Kamm and Nico Grimbs.

Zebrauskas feels at home in Franconia. His positive development in the Kleeblatt has therefore not gone unnoticed for a long time. At the away game in Hannover (1:2) at the end of August, the hard-working talent was in the professional squad for the first time, before two weeks later in Magdeburg (1:2) the professional debut followed, when Zebrauskas was substituted in the 68th minute. "The two nominations were outstanding experiences and the greatest motivation to continue to give everything for my goal," he emphasizes.

Zebrauskas does not lose sight of his goal of establishing himself in the professional squad - even if no further professional nominations have been added since his debut. However, this can rather be attributed to the strong competition for the Fürth full-back post. Simon Asta is set as a right-back, Marco Meyerhöfer is back after a long injury break, and Oualid Mhamdi also has better cards at the moment. Nevertheless, Ruman is convinced of Zebrauskas: "I trust him to make a breakthrough. He has the skills for a professional career."

In addition, there is Zebrauskas nomination for the senior national team of Lithuania. With the substitution in the Nations League match at the end of September in Luxembourg (0:1), "a dream came true" for the defender. Zebrauskas, who proudly describes the first 47 minutes for his country, is also in demand as a left-back due to his two-footedness in the national team. Most recently, he also ploughed this page at the Baltic Cup. Lithuania coach Reinhold Breu has a conclusive explanation for this: "The traditional left-back has injured himself and he can play the position. I see his future on the right."

Even if the talent would still be eligible to play for the U21, Breu plans him firmly for the senior national team. The versatility of the precocious Zebrauskas should be a decisive advantage.

21-erių metų Lietuvos rinktinės krašto gynėjas kaip laisvasis agentas persikels į Erfurto „Rot-Weiss“ klubą, kuris žaidžia ketvirtoje pagal pajėgumą Vokietijos lygoje.

N.Žebrauskas su „Rot-Weiss“ klubu sudarė dvejų metų sutartį – iki 2025 metų vasaros.

„Esu labai laimingas, kad žaisiu „Rot-Weiss“ klube. Po pokalbio su klubų vadovais pajaučiau, kad čia man bus puiki vieta. Tikiu, kad galime turėti labai gerą sezoną“, – sakė N.Žebrauskas.

„Rot-Weiss“ klubas praėjusiame sezone lygoje užėmė trečią vietą, o N.Žebrauskas šioje ekipoje vilkės 4 numeriu pažymėtus marškinėlius.

Red and White full-back Natanas Zebrauskas is leaving FC RWE. The club is thus responding to the Lithuanian's wish to be able to return to his homeland.
